The Karatu St Paul Academy believes that an investment in early childhood development will give children the foundation they need to succeed in school. Our mission is to provide a safe place for orphans and street children aged 3 to 6 years old in the Karatu District to learn caring spiritual values and manners and build their self-confidence and skills to transition to primary School.
Getting a head start means the difference
between a life on the street or a life in school
Any tourist on the way through the town of Karatu to Ngorongoro Crater or Serengeti can see the mnany children living on the streets. Either orphans or neglected by their families, these children survive by begging and scavenging in the town dumpsite. Karatu St Paul Academy aims to transform this societal problem by reaching out to orphans and street children aged 3 to 6 and welcoming them to our faith-based nursery school. Located in a church 3 km. southeast of Karatu Post Office, St Paul plans to reach 60 children per year to direct them onot a trajectory of education in school, not street life.
Our Goals:
- to provide two nutritious meals per day for each child.
- to care for the students.
- to reach out to the students' families and build relationships.
- to teach them spiritual values and social manners.
- to build the students' self- confidence and self-esteem.
- to motivate the children to learn.
- to provide a foundational education in math, kiswahili and english to helpthe students prepare for primary school.
- to offer two qualified teachers and good learning materials.
- to offer experiential learning opportunities, such as a study tour to nearby national parks.
- to transition the children from street life to school life.

Our Founder and Director:
Samson Gladstone has 11 years experience in the field of education. He earned his teaching certificate in 1998 in Iringa, Tanzania. He has served as the headmaster of two government primary schools in Karatu District (Meali and Midabini) where he has formed partnerships with international friends to improve access to water, sanitation, and nutrition for more than 600 students. He founded the St. Paul Academy in 2010 to do something about the many children without direction in his community. "Education is the key to life" - a popular saying in Tanzania. The school has helped 40 children so far, and can reach many more children in need with your help.
